de Condotta

de Condotta at Fall War 98

De Condotta was founded by a group of friends shortly after we joined the Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia in either 1990 and 1991.  We took the name from a word in a book about knights and armor.  It refers to a contract that Italian mercenary companies used.  Each of the mercenaries was called a condottieri.  Thus, we are de Condotta and our members are condottieris.
The group is organized as a mercenary company.  We have four officers: the Captain, the Lieutenant, the Sergeant, and the Proveditori.  The Captain is the leader of the group.  The Lieutenant is second in command.  The Sergeant is charged with running frat practices.  The Proveditori is the group's treasurer.
Over the years de Condotta has evolved.  At one time we were one of the one most active groups in Markland - participating in nearly all activities that our umbrella group did.  Changes within Markland have drawn us more into the realm of fratricidal fighting. While we still retain a fair number of 'steel' fighters (including several steel qualifiers) we are, as of late, predominately a 'frat' group.
That being true, we still encourage our members to take an interest in medieval history and to be active in more than one aspect of Markland.  We take pride in the high quality of many of our members' reenactment impressions.  We do not want to be just another group of "stick-jocks."

So just what does de Condotta do?  Within Markland we are active in frat and rec.  Many members are also involved in the Men of Warwick living history camp.  Due to our proximity to the University of Maryland we take it upon ourselves to assist the Maryland campus chapter of Markland.
